Rayleigh and Kent Elms maintain unbeaten starts

Rayleigh’s second men’s team continued their winning start in division three of the Leigh & Westcliff winter leagues with a resounding home win over David Lloyd two. A combination of youth and experience helped the Watchfield Lane club to make it two wins from two – eleven points out of twelve. Youngsters, Oliver Crickmay & Joseph Beeching eased past David Petchey & Gary McCarthy 6-3 6-3 whilst more experienced pairing of Jim Reid & Stuart Worboys overcame Simon Basham & Darren Glover 6-4 6-3.

Thorpe Bay three continued their fast start to life in division four as they charged past Kent Elms two away from home! Bay’s first pairing of Craig Jones & Mark Husselbee overpowered Andrew Wayman & Andy Pond 6-2 6-1 to perfectly setup their second pairing of Jamie Tite & Andrew Wilson who defeated Matt Freeman & Trevor Noad 6-4 6-4.

Kent Elms second ladies team maintained their unbeaten start to their division three campaign by conquering Westcliff Lawn three. Nalandi Sharma-Ebdon & Brenda Lincoln set the home side on their way as they beat Caroline Gaitely & Laura Ravinet 6-1 6-2 whilst Jo Hancock & Katy Cox triumphed over Sheila Kerr & Jacqueline Moffat 6-3 6-3.

David Lloyd two scraped past Thorpe Bay four in a thrilling week two encounter in division four. The home side’s first pair of Margaret Bromley & Jill Piper edged a close match with Louise Young & Mandy Price 5-7 6-3 6-3. The second rubber was equally as tight as Mary Tanqueray & Isabella Smith overcame Karen Werry & Liz Wood 7-6 6-4 to secure a 4-1 win.
