Rain rain go away!

The winter season may only be in its infancy however the 2019/20 season is on course to be a record breaker with several matches across all divisions falling foul of the weather. Despite the wet weather, the ever-present high standard has not waivered!

Westcliff Lawn have asserted their dominance in Mixed Division One in the early weeks of the season taking fifteen points from a possible eighteen. Before their 4-2 win away at Hadleigh Park One in week three, they breezed past Westcliff Hard One 5-1 and Southend Lawn One 6-0. Next up they host second-placed Thorpe Bay One followed by third-placed Rayleigh One. Convincing wins over both clubs could well wrap-up the title before Christmas!

Further down the Mixed pyramid, another Westcliff club is building a promotion push. Westcliff Hard Two are currently at the summit of Division Three after three games. Either side of a rain-effected tie against David Lloyd Two, they strolled past Hadleigh Park Two 6-0 before demonstrating they have the ability to win ugly as they scraped past local-rivals Invicta 4-2. They travel to Southend Lawn Two next week who could really shake things up with win.

We may only be in week three, however Rayleigh will be pleased with how both their Ladies and Mens first teams have started there latest winter campaign as both sit top of their respective first divisions.

Their ladies started the season with an emphatic 6-0 home win over Kent Elms before drawing at David Lloyd One. A stern test awaits next as they host second-placed Westcliff Lawn One who will be buoyed by their 6-0 demolition of Westcliff Hard One last time out.

Rayleigh Mens One kicked off their winter campaign with a hard-fought 3-3 draw away at Westcliff Hard One before brushing aside second-placed Thorpe Bay One at home 5-1 in week two. They are back on the road next week as they travel to Wickford One, with whom they have shared many close battles in recent seasons.

Back in the Ladies, Hockley One have been the surprise package in Division Two after a couple of years languishing towards the bottom of the league. A statement win in week one away at Thorpe Bay Two 5-1 was backed up by an almost faultless 6-0 home win over Westcliff Lawn Two with the loss of only one game!

Equally as impressive are Thorpe Bay Mens Two! Back-to-back 6-0 wins have the seaside club coasting at the top of Mens Division Three after two games. Next they face a trip to Invicta One before hosting second-placed Deanes.
